End Lonely Shopping Days
The studies show that, these days, we are watching more closely how and why we are spending our money. Heck, we don’t need the news to tell us that! We are reminded of this every time we start our car’s engine and every time we are standing in line at the check-out counter. We feel it in our wallets and pocketbooks.
So why this blog? We see shopping as more than just prices and products. Shopping is a community activity. A cultural and social activity that is part of who we are as people. No other creature on this planet obtains its daily sustenance like we do. It’s one of the things that makes us unique. For thousands of years, the marketplace has been the focal point for much of people’s lives. But in today’s world, that’s changed. The fast pace, quick shop, mega-mart mentality is taking that away.
Mom doesn’t tell us anymore who has the best price on bread this week. No more grandma (or grandpa) to share their shopping tips to ensure we get the best products at the best price. We don’t see and mingle with our neighbors at the market to talk about the daily events. Okay, maybe once in a while we’ll share shopping tips with our co-workers while around the water cooler or fellow parents on our kid’s sports team. But those discussions are becoming fewer and fewer.
And it’s a shame. Because the people we talk with remember with fondness the times when someone helped them with a great shopping tip. It might have been a relative telling you how to choose and buy the best produce. A friend calling you up to tell you there’s a great price on chicken today at the local store. Or the stranger in the store who saw you buying juice and pointed out a great bargain in the next case over.
Well, we hope to change that with this blog and our web site. We hope to help bring the community back together to help us make shopping easier, less expensive and more fun! Thanks for taking the time to visit our site.
